New Year's Day, the first day of January in the Gregorian calendar, is commonly known as the "New Year" by most people in the world. Yuan is called "the beginning", and the beginning of every number is called "Yuan"; Dan is called "Day"; "New Year's Day" means "the initial day".
"New Year's Day" usually refers to the first day of the first month in the calendar. In China, the term "New Year's Day" has existed since ancient times, and was first seen in literary works in the Book of Jin. In Chinese history, "New Year's Day" refers to the "first day of the first month". The calculation method of "first month" was very inconsistent before the period of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, and the dates of New Year's Day (the first day of the first month) in various dynasties were not consistent.
After the Revolution of 1911, in order to "observe the Summer Festival, so the agricultural season is followed, and the Western calendar is followed, so statistics are made." In the first year of the Republic of China, it was decided to use the Gregorian calendar (actually used in 1912), and the first day of January in the Gregorian calendar was designated as the "New Year's Day," but it was not called the "New Year's Day. In 1949, the People's Republic of China took January 1 of the Gregorian calendar as the New Year's Day, so the term "New Year's Day" is also known in China as the "Gregorian Year", "New Calendar Year", or "Gregorian Year.".
